How to install Redis

Go to the terminal in ubuntu.Download, extract and compile Redis using the following commands,

$ wget http://download.redis.io/releases/redis-2.8.9.tar.gz
$ tar xzf redis-2.8.9.tar.gz
$ cd redis-2.8.9
$ make

The Binaries that are compiled will be available in the src directory.

To run the Redis server, execute the command

$ ./redis-2.8.9/src/redis-server

Similarly, to run the command line interface(in a seperate terminal), execute the command

$ ./redis-2.8.9/src/redis-cli

Now you can start executing the commands in the new terminal.  Or you can use

sudo apt-get install redis-server
